On August 8, 2005 Hotel Dieu's mandate changed when the organization assumed governance and management of the Shaver Hospital and Niagara Rehab Centre, a complex continuing care and rehabilitation facility.
Our Logo
Our visual identity reflects this new beginning. The three feathers on the dove icon represent our three founding Sisters as well as the three organizations - Hotel Dieu, Shaver Hospital, and Niagara Rehab. The dove is a symbol of peace, rebirth and is positioned to denote a direction towards the future and rising above challenges. Of course the dove is also sometimes used to represent the Holy Spirit.
Our Name
"Hotel Dieu" represents our governing body, The Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph. There are many Hotel Dieu Hospitals in Ontario and around the world. All have a rich history in providing quality, compassionate healthcare.
The "Shaver" name is in recognition of Dr. Cecil G. Shaver who was not only an outstanding physician and gentleman but someone who played a key role in the development of both the Shaver Hospital and Niagara Rehab Centre.
The "Health and Rehabilitation" denotes our mandate of providing quality care in the areas of rehabilitation services and complex continuing care. The use of the word "Health" was a conscious decision as it was felt it is a softer more comforting word than hospital or complex care.
