FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q.  Do I need to pay for a hearing test?
A.  The hearing test is covered under the global budget of the Hotel Dieu Shaver Health & Rehabilitation Centre

Q.  Is my child too young to have a hearing test?
A.  A hearing test can be done at any age.

Q.  My child has frequent middle ear infections- will this affect his hearing?

A.  Middle ear infections that are associated with fluid in the middle ear can cause a mild hearing loss.   This type of hearing loss is usually temporary, and can last for weeks or even months.

Q.  What if I need a hearing aid?

A.  If the audiologist determines that a hearing aid would be beneficial, he or she will discuss the various styles and circuits of hearing aids that are available.   You will obtain a prescription for a specific hearing aid and the necessary paperwork to obtain the hearing aid at a hearing aid dispenser of your choice.

Q.  Are hearing aids expensive?
A.  Hearing aids vary in cost.  Most people can receive funding through the Assistive Devices Program, which contributes $500 per ear toward the cost of the hearing aids.

The audiologists prescribe a hearing aid based on your hearing loss, your lifestyle and your hearing needs.  The audiologists do not receive any commission for the sale of hearing aids.
