Changes to Patient Visitation at HDS

Posted Apr 9th, 2021 in News

As always, our first priority at Hotel Dieu Shaver is the health, comfort and safety of our patients, loved ones, staff, and physicians. In light of the pressing circumstances and rapidly increasing COVID-19 cases surrounding us, our team had to make a difficult decision today and implement a no-visitors policy effective Saturday, April 10th, 2021.

We understand the important role family and loved ones have in supporting our patients. In these times, it is necessary to protect the well-being of our patients, as well as our staff and physicians, by restricting traffic in and out of the hospital.

Very limited exceptions to this policy are available in extenuating circumstances, on a case-by-case basis for end of life palliative patients. We expect these restrictions will be in place for several weeks, as we develop a process to safely welcome visitors back into the hospital. We sincerely apologize for the disruption.

Pastoral Services is available to schedule tunnel visits and phone/video calls for those patients who would like them, based on appointment and Pastoral Services staffing availability.  Appointments may be scheduled by calling Pastoral Services at extension 84274 (noting that there is no availability on Sundays). We will provide all patients with free WIFI service to help make it easier to connect with family.

Your support and understanding is greatly appreciated. We will keep you updated on the status of this policy. We look forward to welcoming visitors and loved ones back into Hotel Dieu Shaver as soon as it is safe to do so.
