Position: Ward Clerk
Position Type: Casual Position Available
Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of medical terminology sufficient to transcribe physician orders and understand the underlying concepts.
- Must have English language literacy and written skills, with emphasis on spelling and grammar sufficient to transcribe physician's orders, maintain records, transcribe messages, & read messages, information and procedures.
- Must have English language verbal communication skills sufficient to communicate effectively with staff, patients and family members.
- Must have human relations and interpersonal skills sufficient to build and maintain positive cooperative working relationships with medical professionals and hospital staff, to deal effectively with patients and the public.
- Computer skills sufficient to input, retrieve, and print information, including proficiency in Microsoft office applications and ability to collate statistics.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, accuracy of work, independent follow-up on information, and the ability to prioritize multiple demands with regular interruptions.
- Possess the ability to seek assistance and clarification to resolve problems with nursing staff, physicians and other hospital departments independently.
- Knowledge of mathematics and ability to operate a calculator sufficient to accurately subtract, multiply, add, divide, and calculate both percentages and fractions.
- A working knowledge of Meditech, e-mail, and Internet applications.
- Must possess knowledge of standard clerical procedures such as record keeping and filing systems, standard business communication formats and knowledge of office equipment to complete clerical functions with minimal supervision.
- Ability to record information accurately, clearly and legibly.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a Medical Office Administration Diploma at a college level or equivalent education and experience required.
- Completion of Medical Terminology course or equivalent required.
Experience:
- Previous experience as a Ward Clerk in a hospital setting or recent experience in a medical office preferred.
Other:
- Must have good attendance and work record.
