Get You Back to the Life You Love
At Hotel Dieu Shaver, our mission has always been to restore health, rebuild lives, and renew hope. For nearly a century, our teams have provided rehabilitation care in the same facility — originally built in 1930.Â
Now, we are embarking on the most transformational project in our history: building a new hospital, three times the size of our current inpatient facility.Â
How We’re Transforming Rehab and Complex Care in Niagara
-
Grow with Niagara’s population by increasing bed capacity from 134 to 190, with room to expandÂ
-
Feature larger, mostly private patient rooms — each with a private bathroomÂ
-
Include modern therapy areas, technology, and research spaceÂ
-
Prioritize sustainability, natural light, and views of the Niagara Escarpment to create a healing environmentÂ
Timeline SnapshotÂ
Where we are today: Functional Program (2025–26)Â
We are currently in the Functional Program stage of planning, supported by a $2.5 million provincial planning grant. This phase will define the services and space requirements for the new hospital and set the stage for design and construction.Â
đź“… Projected Timeline*Â
2025–26 → Functional Program (planning in progress)Â
2026–28 → Design developmentÂ
2029–32 → Construction phaseÂ
~2033 → Opening of the new Hotel Dieu ShaverÂ
Why This MattersÂ
This project is about more than bricks and mortar. It’s about building the future of rehabilitation and complex care in Niagara.
- Niagara has one of the fastest-aging populations in Ontario.Â
- Our current inpatient facility was built in 1930 – and has long outgrown demand.Â
- Hotel Dieu Shaver consistently achieves 99%+ patient satisfaction, showing the care is exceptional – but the space must now match the quality of that care.Â
