Posted Jun 29th, 2026 in News

Hotel Dieu Shaver Health and Rehabilitation Centre (HDS) is proud to celebrate two clinicians who have been recognized by McMaster University's School of Rehabilitation Science for their outstanding contributions to clinical education.

Julia Colangeli, Speech-Language Pathologist, has been named the 2026 Speech-Language Pathology Clinical Instructor of the Year, recognizing her exceptional commitment to teaching, mentorship, and the development of future speech-language pathologists.

The annual award honours clinical instructors who demonstrate excellence in clinical education while inspiring and supporting the next generation of rehabilitation professionals.

"We are incredibly proud of Julia and this well-deserved recognition," said Dr. David Ceglie, Chief Executive Officer of Hotel Dieu Shaver. "Clinical education is an essential part of our mission as a rehabilitation hospital. By sharing their knowledge, experience, and passion with students, our clinicians help shape the future of healthcare while ensuring patients continue to receive exceptional care."

As a clinical instructor, Julia works closely with students completing clinical placements at Hotel Dieu Shaver, helping them develop the skills, confidence, and compassion required to provide patient-centred rehabilitation care.

HDS is also pleased to recognize Winnie Tam, Occupational Therapist, who was nominated for the Occupational Therapy Clinical Instructor of the Year Award. Her nomination reflects her dedication to mentorship and the positive impact she has on student learning throughout their clinical placements.

As a teaching hospital, Hotel Dieu Shaver plays an important role in educating future rehabilitation professionals through partnerships with post-secondary institutions, including McMaster University. Clinical placements provide students with invaluable hands-on experience while contributing to a culture of learning, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the organization.

Congratulations to Julia on this outstanding achievement, and thank you to both Julia and Winnie for their ongoing commitment to clinical education and to the future of rehabilitation care.
