Beginning Tuesday, October 6, Hotel Dieu Shaver Health and Rehabilitation Centre is introducing a new pay-by-plate parking system designed to make parking more convenient and reliable for patients and visitors.
The new system replaces HDS’s existing outdoor pay-and-display machines with indoor parking terminals located at key hospital entrances.
Under the new system, patients and visitors will simply enter their vehicle’s licence plate number at a parking terminal and complete their payment. Because parking is connected directly to the licence plate, there is no longer a need to print a ticket or return to your vehicle to display proof of payment on the dashboard.
A More Convenient Parking Experience
Moving the parking terminals indoors provides several benefits for patients and visitors:
- No return trip to your vehicle – Once payment is complete, you can continue directly to your appointment or visit.
- Protection from the elements – Parking terminals are now located indoors, eliminating the need to use outdoor machines during rain, snow or extreme temperatures.
- Improved reliability – Indoor terminals are less susceptible to weather-related issues that can affect outdoor equipment.
- Simple pay-by-plate technology – Your licence plate serves as your parking identifier, eliminating the need for a paper ticket on your dashboard.

Indoor parking terminals are available at the following locations:
Dr. John T. Luce Inpatient Building
- Main Entrance
- North Entrance / Ambulance Entrance
Outpatient Building
- Main Entrance / Entrance A
- Entrance B
- Entrance C
- Entrance D
- PBO Entrance
Visitors should make note of their licence plate number before entering the hospital, as it will be required when paying for parking.
The new machines accept debit, credit, mobile / contactless payment and coins. The machines do not provide change.

Parking Rates
Parking rates are not changing as part of the transition to pay-by-plate. Current rates remain $2.50 per hour, to a daily maximum of $7, with monthly parking available for $50.
Parking at HDS
As part of our ongoing efforts to make visits to HDS as convenient and accessible as possible for the patients, families and visitors we serve, HDS parking facilities are reserved for patients, visitors, staff and authorized hospital partners. Parking for nearby businesses, institutions or other non-hospital purposes is not permitted.
