Hotel Dieu Shaver Updating Masking Guidelines

Posted Jun 12th, 2023 in News

*Updated June 12, 2023*

Following guidance from Public Health Ontario, the regional COVID-19 Subject Matter Experts (SME) committee and in alignment with other HNHBB hospitals, effective Monday, June 12, 2023, Hotel Dieu Shaver will move into Phase 2 of modifying mandatory universal masking requirements. Although encouraged, Hotel Dieu Shaver no longer requires patients or visitors to wear a mask when entering the hospital. Masks remain available at hospital entrances.

Additionally, staff and physicians will use a tool called Point-of-Care Risk Assessment (PCRA) to assess what personal protective equipment (PPE) they need when interacting with patients. Staff and physicians will consider each individual scenario, including the patient, environment and circumstances to assess what PPE is required for that situation. For example, if a patient is coughing or experiencing respiratory symptoms, staff or physicians will wear a mask and eye protection when providing care.

As a reminder, you should not attend the hospital if you are feeling unwell.

Thank you for your ongoing support and patience as we continue to work diligently in the best interests of the safety of our patients, staff, physicians, patient advisors, students, volunteers and visitors.
